February 12, 2015
Our  Valentines meeting is strictly a love affair for both the music and  comedy of classic films. This month we pay tribute to the inspired  contributions of the inimitable T. Marvin Hatley who provided the  immortal Theme Song for which the Boys are know the world over. Marvin  Hatley's family will be in attendance for some old chestnuts and few  little acorns that many of us had never seen before.

All presentations screened from 16mm film prints!

Our  February Meeting is a Tribute to the man who gave us the Laurel &  Hardy Theme Song. T. Marvin Hatley's family will be in attendance. Film  program includes BLOCKHEADS (1938) which Hatley received an Oscar  nomination - Our Gang in MIKE FRIGHT (1934) - Charley Chase in THE  TABASCO KID (1932) both shorts feature Hatley in the cast.

The evening's bill of fare includes:
"BLOCKHEADS" (1938)
For which Hatley received an OSCAR nomination.

"MIKE FRIGHT" (1934)
An Our Gang gem the never fails to entertain, especially when T. Marvin Hatley makes his appearance.

"THE TABASCO KID" (1932)
A Charley Chase charmer also featuring Hatley in the cast!

In a Holiday mood? HOLLYWOOD PARTY ladles out a healthy serving of Yuletide cheer from the Hal Roach Studios
punch bowl. All presentations screened from 16mm film prints.

Our evening's selections included:

"TWO TARS" (1928)
On leave from the Navy, the Boys try to enjoy their furlough but with typical disastrous results.
One of THE quintessential Laurel & Hardy silents — also one of the best of that bygone era.

"DO DETECTIVES THINK" (1927)
Sleuths Stan and Ollie are on the case as Judge James Finlayson has been threatened by the man he convicted.
This film is the first in which the Boys appear with their trademark derby hats.

"BARNUM & RINGLING, INC.'" (1929)
One of the last Our Gang silents, the kids decide to enter their pets in a hotel contest. This film will be
accompanied with the original Vitaphone score that audiences heard at the time of its release to first run
houses that were equipped to show films with the early synchronized audio.

"CALL OF THE CUCKOO'" (1927)
An all star Hal Roach comedy starring Max Davidson and featuring Charley Chase, Stan Laurel and Oliver Hardy.
One of the funniest comedies to come out of the "Lot of Fun".

"SUGAR DADDIES'" (1927)
An early Laurel & Hardy film that doesn't yet feature them as the team we know and love. James Finlayson is Cyrus
Brittle, with Stan as his lawyer and Ollie as his butler — both trying to help Fin out of a marital jam.

PLUS A RARE CARTOON GEM FROM THE SILENT ERA!

Sons of the Desert
meeting

In a Halloween mood! HOLLYWOOD PARTY took a semi-spooky trip to Hal Roach Studios. All presentations screened
from 16mm film  prints.

Our evening's selections included:

"PUBLIC GHOST" (1936)
Charley Chase in one of his last Hal Roach shorts as he tries to wee lovely Joyce Compton yet remain in the good
graces of her father Clarence Wilson.

"GOING BYE BYE" (1934)
In an effort to get out of town in a hurry, our intrepid heroes agree to bring Mae Bush along for the ride.

"READIN' AND WRITIN'" (1932 - UNCUT)
Fed up with school, Breezy comes up with a plan to get himself expelled. Featuring Stymie, Wheezer, Dorothy, Pete
he Pub, and everybody's favorite teacher Mrs. Crabtree (June Marlowe).
* [A few minutes were edited out of the Little Rascals television package back in 1971 owing to derogatory African
American references and a few other scenes were deemed to simply be in bad taste. Please note those scenes remain
in this UNCUT version.]

"BEAU HUNKS" (1931)
Stan Laurel proclaimed this to be his favorite Laurel & Hardy short.
The Boys join the Foreign Legion to help Babe forget his love (revealed in a photograph as Jean Harlow). Harlow, in
appreciation to her former boss, permitted Roach to utilize her photo here at no charge in this four-reel featurette.

Into the evening's mix was a classic cartoon short.  "TRICK OR TREAT, KIDS!"

June 13th. 2013

" STAN LAUREL, THE CHARMER "  (1982)
 A French documentary on Stan.
Another Fine Mess (1930)
Scram! (1932)
